The more adventurous of our safaris, an expedition in the wildest places of East Africa; Deserts of sand, salt and lava, totally authentic tribes, the fabulous scenery of Lake Turkana also known as the Jade Sea and finally Koobi Fora, the cradle of mankind.

Day 1: Nairobi – Mount Kenya.

Arrival at the airport, customs and immigration formalities. Welcome by your guide and transfer by car to the foot of Mount Kenya. After crossing the Equator, arrive for lunch and installation at Kongoni Lodge.  Afternoon at leisure followed by a briefing and introduction to your motorbike.  Dinner and overnight at Kongoni Lodge.

Route: 200 kilometres of paved road.

 Day 2: Mount Kenya – Laikipia – Maralal.

Early breakfast then depart to Maralal across the Laikipia plateau. After 30kms. of asphalt, we take a track to Lodokejek. These 110kms. of often fast tracks pass through the fabulous scenery of the Laikipia plateau inhabited by both the Maasai people and interesting wildlife.  After crossing the Ewaso Nyiro River, we drive to Maralal on a fast and wide track.  Picnic lunch and arrival by mid-afternoon.  Dinner and overnight at Ngari Hills Guest House.

 Route: 140 km of track and 30 kilometers of paved road.

 Day 3: Maralal – South Horr.

Breakfast, then 180kms of track through Samburu Country and wild and beautiful scenery to finally arrive at Desert Rose perched on the slopes of Mount Nyiru.  Dinner and overnight at Desert Rose.

 Route: 180 kilometers of tracks

 Day 4: South Horr – Loiyangalani.

A leisurely morning and an opportunity to visit a Samburu village or take a short, early walk in the hills.  Lunch, then depart for the heat of Loiyangalani (60kms.).  On the way we will stop at several viewpoints to admire the contrast of Lake Turkana’s green/blue waters, also known as the Jade Sea, with the volcanic rocks that surround it.  Dinner and overnight at Osais Lodge or equivalent.

 Route: 60 kilometres of track.

 Day 5: Loiyangalani.

Breakfast, then visit the El Molo village, home to the smallest tribe in Kenya, after which we ride between salt and lava desert on one of the wildest tracks of this trip, through rocky hills and dry wadis. Visit the Petrified Forest. Dinner and overnight at Osais Lodge or equivalent.

Route: 80 kilometers of tracks.

Day 6: Loiyangalani – Marsabit.

Depart early across Sibiloi National Park with alternate sandy and lava deserts to reach North Horr, then cross the salt desert of Chalbi to the volcanic craters of Marsabit and cool air of this forested. Dinner and overnight at Marsabit.

Route: 230 kilometres of tracks. 

Day 7: Marsabit – Samburu.

Breakfast, then we return to the desert across volcanoes and lava to Kargi.  We then proceed to the south across the Koroli Desert and Rendille and Samburu territories, up to Korr and Merille where we join the tarmac that will finally lead us to Shaba Game Reserve. Dinner and overnight at Shaba.

Route: 230 kilometers of tracks and 100 kilometers of paved roads. 

Day 8: Samburu.

Day of rest for motorbikes.  Swimming pool and game drives in a 4×4 in Shaba, Buffalo Springs or Samburu Game Reserves.  There is a lot of wildlife in these pristine Game Reserves crossed by the Ewaso Nyiro River.  Meals and overnight at Shaba.

Route: 100 kilometres in a 4X4.

Day 9: Samburu – Nanyuki – Nairobi.

Return to Nanyuki, lunch then continue by car to Nairobi.  Airport transfer for your return flight.

Route: 120 kilometres of tarmac road by bike and 200 kilometres of tarmac road in a car.
